ART Therapy Academy a subsidiary of Helios Training Centre:
3 year course
GOAL: The goal of the course is to enable you to use art to do therapy. We start everybody at basic level in terms of art and therapeutic methods, but advance very fast.
1st year requirements:
- Attendance of eight classes through the year on Saturdays of which 6 is compulsory. The 8 classes will be presented over 4 days. (Alternative arrangements can be made if you can’t attend)
- 4 theoretical assignments.
- 4 practical assignments.
- Final exam in September
Registration:
- Registration closes on 20 February and 30 July every year.
- To register: Fill in registration form and pay your deposit.
1st year:
- Introduction to art therapy.
- Traumatology.
- Narrative therapy
You receive a certificate after completion of the 1st year
Cost:
- Total cost – R11 500 per year.
- Registration fee: R1 500, balance to be paid monthly.
Council:
- Registration with council for art therapists in SA as art counsellor after 1st year and as art therapist after completion of the 3rd year.
2nd & 3rd year:

You can also complete a second and third year.
- Art therapy
- Therapeutic modules (psychodynamic, behavioural, person-centred, ret, reality, transactional)
- Practical application.
2nd year - there are 3 modules:

3rd year - there are 4 modules:
- Advanced Art therapy
- Therapeutic modules (cognitive, gestalt)
- Group/Family therapy
- Practical research project (thesis).
